What are Overtime Rates?

Generally, overtime rates are special wage rates that are payable to an employee for:

  • working more hours than the maximum allowed in a week; or
  • working more hours than the maximum allowed in a day; or
  • working hours that are outside of the normal span of hours.

For example, a Modern Award may establish the following special rates for all overtime work:

First 3 hours of overtime    150%
Thereafter    200%
