What is a Award Flexibility Agreement?

An Award Flexibility Agreement (AFA) is an agreement that allows for changes to be made to a Modern Award in order to meet the genuine needs of an employer's business and an individual employee, while ensuring that the employee is not 'worse off' under the new arrangement.

An AFA can change the following parts of any Modern Award:

  • Arrangements for when work is performed
  • Overtime rates
  • Penalty rates
  • Allowances
  • Leave loading
