An employee who is a parent or has a responsibility for the care of a child may request a change in working arrangements to assist the employee to care for the child (e.g: changes in hours of work or patterns of work, or a change in location of work), provided that the child is under school age or is under 18 and has a disability.

However, a request can only be made by an employee if:

  • the employee has worked continuously for the same employer for at least 12 months; or
  • if the employee is a casual, and the employee has worked continuously for the same employer for at least 12 months and has a reasonable expectation of continuing employment on a regular and systematic basis.
