What is a Trade Union?

A trade union is a not-for-profit body that has been established to represent the interests of employees within a particular industry or a group of industries.  Usually, employees pay an annual membership fee and are able to obtain advice and information from their trade union about their rights at the workplace.

Trade unions can also represent employees when dealing with employers in an attempt to negotiate better wages and working conditions, and they can also act on behalf of employees in unfair dismissal and underpayment of wage claims.
