What is Long Service Leave?
All employees are entitled to long service leave after they have worked for the same employer for a certain period of time. The length of the 'qualifying period', and the amount of the long service leave entitlement, differs from state to state.
Generally speaking, an employee will be entitled to long service leave after being continuously employed with the same employer for 5-7 years.
Note that in some industries, such as the building and construction industry, industry-type schemes have been established to allow workers who have continually worked within such industries to access long service leave, despite having worked for different employers during that period of time
